Incredibly, the Marlins are 4 games back in the loss column. I say incredibly because let's face it, the pounding the team took from Philly provided a bleak outlook of things to come. Thankfully for the team, we were swept up into the bossom of mother San Diego to suckle from her warm teet.
Houston, Atlanta, Chicago, San Fran and Colorado are in between Florida and a trip to the playoffs.
The Marlins are 1 game behind Atlanta and Houston in the loss column
Two behind the Cubs, three behind San Fran and four behind the Rockies.
San Fran is spiralling out of control while the Braves are just out of control hot. Atlanta has won 8 of 10 and just finished making the Giants look like a girls team during their very recent series.
So we can look at the glass half full (4 back in the loss column) or the glass half empty (we have to jump a lot of teams to get there).
On the 22nd of July, I'm going with the half full approach but the team needs to avoid a nightmare in Los Angeles. With that said, in case you haven't noticed the Dodgers are winning a lot but there also winning a lot of close games that could have gone either way so there is hope.
Of the teams ahead of us there are two teams that do not scare me: Chicago and San Fran. Chicago because well, they're Chicago and San Fran because I think they are finally coming back down to earth.
Houston is historically a good second half team and the Rockies are streaky. Atlanta is the "wild card" in the wild card chase. Can they really keep this up?
Curious to hear everyones thoughts. Obviously this thread is slightly homerish because we just swept a road series but let's hear it.
Does the FO go out and get a bat now or did the Philly series put the nail in the coffin?
